TED May Leadership Update

Dear TED Members

Spring Semester 2024 is now in the books! I hope many of you are enjoying a well deserved break before you begin or continue summer sessions, writing projects, and all those other things we like to put off to Summer. At least relax in the fact University Committees don’t meet over the summer! If only we really got three months off!

Registration for the TED conference is now open! Our planning committee has outdone themselves, as usual! Register and book your hotel room ASAP! Can’t wait to see you in Pittsburgh! https://tedcec.org/events/ted-conference/registration

As I’ve been saying all year, get involved with a committee, a Caucus, or a SIG - Here are what some of our groups are doing! Reach out to find out how you too can get involved!

Committee/Caucus/SIG Updates:

From Lucky Mason Williams and the Policy Committee:

The TED Policy Committee has been working hard to create amazing new content and provide unique opportunities! First, our initial Advocacy Brief is ready to go and number 2 is nearly ready! We hope these materials will provide important information about resources available to help you be an effective advocator (Advocacy Brief #1) and how to include advocacy in your teaching (Advocacy Brief #2). To accompany the briefs, we've created podcasts! All will be posted to the TED website SOON! We also identified 10 members of TED to attend the Special Education Legislative Summit in July and will be selecting our inaugural TED Policy Fellows in the next few days.

From Stephanie Morano and the PD Committee

The PD committee has submitted for several TED conference special sessions related to AI in teacher preparation and is planning for additional PD programming on the same theme before and after the conference. If you have an idea or know of a connection we can make with another group or organization that is putting on PD about AI in teacher education, please reach out to Stephanie Morano at morano@virignia.edu

From Tamara Lynn and the SSEPC

Coming Soon -- Exciting professional development opportunities hosted by SSEPC!

  • Summer 2024: The Happy Teacher Habits book club
  • TED 2024: We will be hosting two moderated sessions:
  • SSEPC Shares: Leveraging CEC Membership and Resources in Small Special Education Programs
  • SSEPC Symposium: Leadership in Small Special Education Programs (featuring panel members: Dr. Amy Stevens, Dr. Marla Lohmann, Dr. Frank Dykes, Dr. Melissa Jenkins, and Dr. Donna Ploessl)

New Section - TED Members on the Move

Each month we want to highlight TED members that are doing great things above and beyond to represent TED. If you are doing great things let us know and we will highlight you as well!

May’s Members on the Move

This month we feature Kait Brennan and LaRon Scott - Kait and LaRon were recently invited to Microsoft for a CAST event. Representing TED with some of the leading technology minds in the country. Thank you for representing us and helping to move education and teacher education forward!

LaRon Scott and Kaitlyn Brennan

LaRon Scott has been very busy! What a great Ambassador for our Field! He was also invited by the White House to talk about inclusive education for students with disabilities, transition supports and services, and teacher preparation. This is so spectacular, talking to both government and business in one trip! But LaRon, remember you need to serve your term as TED’s President before you go to Washington as the US President! #Scott2028

We know more of you are doing things just as fabulous to promote teachers, teacher preparation, and students with disabilities. I can’t wait to highlight you next time!

Best,

Kyena Cornelius
