February Presidents Message

Dear TED members,

Welcome to February—wow! That was fast. I hope everyone has had a safe and productive start to the spring semester. Evidently, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow so we’ve got a few more cold days ahead of us.

Fortunately, there is much to be excited about for TED members! Join us at CEC for great presentations; in-person committee, caucus, and SIG meetings; and our annual business meeting and reception. We have added a calendar feature to our website so you can see all TED-related events throughout the year, starting with our CEC offerings. All of the meetings and TED-sponsored presentations are listed, with their description and location, on the calendar. Check it out here and let us know how it works for you!

Your TED Board will be meeting on March 1 at CEC. In addition to our regular Board business and goal-setting, we will be taking a close look at how we operate and how we want to build a productive and inclusive organizational culture. Several of our past presidents will present about the progress we have made toward our strategic plan goals at our annual business meeting. If you want to know more or have questions/thoughts, join us for the business meeting on Thursday, March 2 from 5-6pm, meet me at the reception immediately afterward, or email me at mweiss9@gmu.edu.

Here are a few other important items

•TED and Division for Research (DR) scholars are presenting a collaborative session on Thursday, March 2 from 11:45-12:45 in M111 of the Convention Center. The title is Interpreting and Researching Teacher Workforce Policy: Implications for the Future. Please join us to support this collaborative effort!

•If you missed TED 2022, Conference Proceedings are posted at https://tedcec.org/events/ted-conference/proceedings.

• TED’s partnership with the Journal of Special Education Preparation (JOSEP) is going strong! Volume 2 Issue 3 for Winter 2022 is available at https://openjournals.bsu.edu/JOSEP/issue/view/326/100. Check it out!

• Kaleidoscope has its annual roundtable and poster session on Friday, March 3 from 8am-11:30am. Join us and support our student scholars!

• Please complete the Member survey to give us feedback on how TED could work for you. The survey should take no more than 5 minutes to complete. TED Member Survey (surveymonkey.com)

• Don’t forget that the 2023 TED Conference will be in Long Beach, CA! Please watch the TED website for more information and call for proposals. The timeline for proposals is changing this year to accommodate earlier notification of acceptance.

• We would like to do some work on our TED website. If you are interested in volunteering a little bit of time to help us find needed updates or suggest new features, please let me know (mweiss9@gmu.edu).

As always, please contact me if you have ideas, questions, or concerns related to TED (mweiss9@gmu.edu). I look forward to seeing you in Louisville!

Sincerely,

Peggy Weiss
