October President’s newsletter

October President’s newsletter

It’s October! The pumpkins are out and there’s a chill in the air (well, at least in Virginia). What does that mean? It’s almost time for the TED Conference! This is the last newsletter before the conference so it’s chock full of conference news. Join us in Long Beach for great sessions, great networking, and great fun! Here’s a rundown of the schedule (all times are Pacific). You can find details at https://tedcec.org/events/ted-conference.

Schedule at a glance for TED 2023

We will provide an update of the organization and some exciting new initiatives at the TED General Business Meeting. The Board will also be available for questions and conversation about positions that will be available in the next election cycle. Please come to find out more about TED and think about running for office. The positions of President Elect, Treasurer, Member at Large for Membership and Diversity, and Member at Large SIG/Cacucus Liaison will all be on the ballot. Consider getting involved by running for office or by joining a committee. You can find out more about committees, caucuses, and special interest groups here. I look forward to seeing you in Long Beach!

What’s Happening at TED!

Social at TED The Early Career Faculty SIG, Research Committee and Diversity Caucus has planned an annual social for the TED Conference. It is scheduled for Wednesday, November 1st. More details to come so watch Facebook!

Presidents Reception at TED We will be hosting our annual Presidents Reception following the Washington Update & Awards Ceremony on October 31 from 5:15-6:15pm. As the reception is on Halloween this year costumes are welcome, we will also be inviting all attendees to wear their best TED Green! PS Hannah, this is your message for fun!

Spooky Hat Contest The Early Childhood Faculty SIG (TEDEC) is very excited to see everyone in Long Beach! Our meeting will be on Halloween and we will celebrate with a hat contest. Wear your favorite fun (or spooky) hat and join us to plan the upcoming year.

TESE Editor Search We are beginning a search for a new editor(s) for TESE! Information can be found here. The call for applications is now open and will close on January 30, 2024. In February, the search committee will review applications and interview top applicants with a target date of March 13 for recommendation to the Board. The new editor(s) would overlap with the current editors from May-December 2024, starting the term on January 1, 2025. Please consider applying. If you have any questions, contact Andy Markelz, Chair of the Search Committee at ammarkelz@bsu.edu.

TED Policy Workgroup Don't forget to mark your calendars for the monthly Virtual Washington Updates! We'll meet next on October 26 at 3pm EST- register to receive the Zoom link on the TED website (https://tedcec.org/virtual-washington-update). While you're there, make sure to read the Washington Update, provided to TED Members weekly and offers LOTS of information about what's happening in DC, including what's happening in Congress, updates from OSEP (including grant announcements!), and summaries about state activities.

The TED Policy Workgroup continues to meet monthly, focused on a variety of activities. We hope to share more details in Long Beach, but we think we have a good idea! We're still looking to recruit a few new members, especially a doctoral student (or two) and faculty members from comprehensive universities and MSIs to join! If you're interested in joining us, please let me know: lmason-williams@binghamton.edu

Shout outs! Fall is the season for evaluation and promotion packages. Congrats to all TED members who submitted promotion packages—we look forward to celebrating your accomplishments with you! Please send any celebration shout outs to me so we can acknowledge your work. Mweiss9@gmu.edu
